The English department offers Freshman English, Freshman Honors English, Sophomore English, Sophomore Honors English, Junior English, Junior Honors English, Senior English, Advanced Placement English, Speech: Introduction to Communication, Publications I, and Publications II. These classes prepare students to be successful in college-level writing and reading.

Jan Luton began teaching at Assumption in 2002. She previously taught at Marycrest, St. Ambrose University, Black Hawk College, and in England. She and her husband, Tom, have four children.

Amy McGuire, a 1988 graduate of Assumption, began teaching at AHS in 2007. She previously taught at St. Paul’s School for 10 years before working at Assumption for three years as the Director of Admissions. She is married to Sean (AHS ‘89), and together they have two children, who both attend St. Paul’s School.

Katelyn McNamara began teaching at Assumption in 2011. Miss McNamara earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from St. Ambrose University. She teaches sophomore English, and is advisor for the student newspaper. Katelyn enjoyed playing softball for the Fighting Bees, and is now coaching the freshman girls’ basketball team at Assumption.

Carly Stahmer began teaching in Assumption’s English Department in 2011. Miss Stahmer earmed a Bachelor's Degree in English Education from the University of Iowa. She teaches junior English and is advisor to the Creative Writing Club.
