Foreign Language
The foreign language department offers French I, French II, French III, Honors French IV, Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III, and Honors Spanish IV. The foreign language classes at Assumption offer students the opportunity to explore other languages as well as cultures. French and Spanish are available to students, and both are accompanied by a club for students especially interested in French or Spanish.

Erica George began teaching in Assumption's Spanish Department in 2011. She has a degree in Spanish Education from Luther College, and lived and studied in Valencia, Spain. Erica is originally from Iowa City and enjoys reading, running, and spending time with family and friends.

Emily Schwenker began teaching French at Assumption in 2008. She has a degree in French teaching from the University of Northern Iowa, and has lived and gone to school in Angers, France. In her free time Emily likes to cook, shop, and travel.

Amy Shoemaker return to AHS in 2011 after a 4 year hiatus. Amy has a BA in Spanish, Physical Education, Health and Coaching from South Dakota State University. She and her husband, Jim, have two children, John and Liz.

After teaching at AHS until 2006, Jodi Smith took time off to stay at home with her children, Marin (5) and Kye (4) before returning to the classroom in 2010. Jodi is excited to be back and is teaching Honors Spanish 4. After living in Mexico, Florida and Texas, Jodi returned to Iowa where she and her husband, John, are originally from the Waterloo area. Jodi and her family are members of OLV.
