The English department offers Freshman English, Freshman Honors English, Sophomore English, Sophomore Honors English, Junior English, Junior Honors English, Senior English, Advanced Placement English, Speech: Introduction to Communication, Publications I, and Publications II. These classes prepare students to be successful in college-level writing and reading.
Mrs. Amy McGuire is 1988 graduate of Assumption. She taught Language Arts and Literature at St. Paul’s School for 10 years before working at Assumption for 3 years as the Director of Admissions. She is excited to be back in the classroom teaching English again. She and her husband Sean - AHS alumnus class of ’89 - have two children, Shannon and Jack, who both attend St. Paul’s School.

Mrs. Jane Tompkins is in her 8th year teaching upper level English at AHS. She and her husband, Paul, have two AHS alums. Jane is actively working towards her Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education at the University of Iowa.
