AHS has always maintained a proud athletic tradition. AHS has 52 athletic teams competing in thirteen sports. The Knights belong to the Mississippi Athletic Conference and compete against other private and public schools. Students at varying levels of skill participate on Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore, or Freshman teams.

AHS’s athletic facilities include 3 practice fields, a baseball diamond, a softball diamond, 6 tennis courts, 2 gymnasiums, a wrestling room, and a weight room.

GOLF (BOYS)

The record-breaking 2005 boys' golf team won first place in the City Championship, second in the River King, Greyhound, Joe August, and MAC tournaments, and third in the Galesburg Invitational. Individual title winners include Drew Phinney and Rob Copeland (City Championship) and Tom Payne (River King Invitational and Greyhound Invitational). Drew Phinney was named All-Conference, and Tom Payne was All-Conference Honorable Mention. This team set the school records for team score (295), junior score (71 : Tom Payne), MAC 18-hole (72 : Drew Phinney), MAC 36-hole (152 : Drew Phinney), and season-long average (75.0 : Tom Payne).

SOCCER (BOYS)

Coach Greg Zeller has been head Boys Soccer Coach at Assumption High School in Davenport since 1997.   Under his direction, the Knights have been to the State Tournament 6 times, with claim to the state title in 2002 and 2003. In his career as a head coach, his teams have made 7 state appearances resulting in 2 State Titles, 2 State Runner-Up Distinctions, 1 Third Place Finish and 2 MAC Titles.

He holds a USSF National “C” license.  He was named the MAC conference coach of the year in 1996 (Davenport West), 2001 and 2003.  In 2003, he was also named the Iowa Boys 1A State Coach of the Year (as voted on by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association) and the Iowa Coach of the Year by the National High School Federation.  In 2006 he was inducted into the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

TENNIS (GIRLS)

The 2006 girls' tennis team made the first trip to the state tournament in school history, taking third place under new coach Tom Foley. Doubles team Kendra Green ('06) and sophomore Adrianne Foley ('08) also advanced to the state tournament as individuals. The varsity team fought through the toughest district in the state to advance to the 1A tournament.
