The Assumption Knight Players
Where creativity fosters community
There is no more welcoming, entertaining, inspiring, and fun-loving group than the AHS drama club: the Assumption Knight Players! Whether students dream of performing under the lights, building sets, designing costumes, or working in the light booth, there is a place for everyone in drama club. Each year, the drama club produces four mainstage productions:
FALL
· Non-musical play
· Children’s show
SPRING
· Musical
· Student-directed one-acts
With four productions each year, students have ample opportunities to perform, create, collaborate, and grow as theatre artists. Theatre is about much more than acting. The drama club offers students a chance to develop new talents and abilities. Every production depends on a team of students working together to bring the show to life with a variety of skills:
· Acting
· Designing and building sets
· Working with lights and sound
· Designing costumes and makeup
· Working backstage
· Managing front of house during performances
The Assumption Knight Players are proud to be home to International Thespian Society Troupe #2761. Students have opportunities to celebrate theatre, develop their skills, and connect with other young theatre artists beyond our school.
Each year, Assumption drama students have the opportunity to attend the Iowa Thespian Festival, a weekend-long celebration of theatre held in November. Every other year, students also have the chance to attend the International Thespian Festival in June, a weeklong experience filled with performances, workshops, and opportunities to connect with theatre students from around the world.
Ask a Knight Player what makes drama club special, and the answer often has less to do with the shows and more to do with the people. During their high school careers, students build friendships, support one another, discover new talents, and become part of a strong community. By senior year, when students gather in the pre-show prayer circle, it’s common to hear them say that they will never forget the family they found in drama club.
