Fire/EMS Career Exploring Program

The Coal Valley Fire Department is looking for motivated students ages 15-20 who have a passion for helping others and who are interested in learning more about the exciting world of fire-fighting and emergency rescue!

Join us at the Coal Valley Fire Protection building on 18th Ave. in Coal Valley on Wednesday, October 3rd anytime between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to learn about our Fire/Rescue Exploring program.

Do you want to get your hands dirty? Do you want to make a positive impact on the lives of members in your community? This is the program for you.

Don’t live in Coal Valley? No problem. This is the perfect opportunity for students at Moline, UT, Rock Island, and other local schools. Family and friends are welcome. Dates: Sept. 4-Oct. 21

Open to: Parents and guardians of Iowa students in grades 6-12.

Awards: Fifty $1,000 deposits into College Savings Iowa accounts.

Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship

Dates: Oct. 22-Feb. 22

Open to: Iowa high school seniors who will attend college in fall 2019.

Awards: Thirty $2,000 college scholarships plus $250 to each recipient’s high school.

Requirements: Register online and then follow emailed instructions to complete two online components and a related assessment.  Scholarships are awarded to the 30 students with the highest scores.

College Funding Forecaster Giveaway

Dates: March 18-April 30

Open to: Iowa high school seniors attending college in fall 2019 and their parents or guardians.

Awards: Ten $1,000 awards sent directly to each student’s college for fall 2019.

Requirements: Complete the College Funding Forecaster tool to estimate total college cost over four years and enter contact information to register for a random drawing.

National Merit Scholarship Program

Congratulations to Nicholas Carber for qualifying as a National Merit Semifinalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. Nicholas has an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

ACT And SAT Exam Preparation Courses

Black Hawk College will be hosting ACT and SAT Exam Preparation courses.
