The Assumption High School Music Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Jordan Boehm. Boehm brings a wealth of experience as an educator, performer, and composer, along with a passion for inspiring students through music.
Originally from North Dakota, Boehm earned bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the University of Mary in Bismarck, followed by a master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Iowa, where he also served as a graduate teaching assistant. After holding adjunct positions with Bismarck State College and Dickinson State University, Mr. Boehm spent a year on doctoral studies at the University of Iowa before returning to the teaching field.
Most recently, Boehm taught at Memorial Middle School on Minot Air Force Base, a National Blue Ribbon and Purple Star School. Under his leadership, student ensembles consistently earned top ratings at music festivals, students were selected for honor groups, and the school’s jazz ensemble was invited to perform at the North Dakota Music Educators Association Conference.
Beyond the classroom, Boehm is an accomplished performer who has shared the stage with renowned artists including The Temptations, Jeff Coffin, and Dave Douglas. He has also performed with numerous respected ensembles, including the Bis/Man Wind Ensemble, Minot Symphony Orchestra, Bis/Man Big Band, and Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra. While studying and teaching in Iowa, he performed with the Northern Brass Quintet and served as section leader for the University of Iowa’s Johnson County Landmark.
As a composer and arranger, Boehm has written works for ensembles of all ages and instrumentation and was recently named the winner of the Minot Symphony Orchestra’s Young Composer Competition. His music has also been featured during North Dakota’s middle and high school All-State Music Festival and premiered by the University of Mary Choir.

It is clear Mr. Boehm brings a wonderful balance of care for his students, professional training, and expectations for growth and excellence.  We feel very blessed to have him join our staff,” said Mrs. Bridget Murphy, Principal.
Boehm is excited to return to Iowa and become part of the Quad Cities music community while continuing the tradition of excellence in instrumental music at Assumption High School!

The Assumption Band has had a busy honor band season! First, on January 16, we had six students participate in the University of Dubuque Honor Band under the direction of Dr. Nolan Hauta. The students who participated were Olivia Fernando – Flute, Ellie Weyeneth – Clarinet, Natalie Herrman – Alto Saxophone, Alex Hady – Trumpet, Ethan Furgason – Trombone, and Evan Wilson – Euphonium.

Then, on Monday, January 19 was the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) Honor Band at Central DeWitt High School! We had 18 students participate between two bands. The 9^th and 10^th grade bands were under the direction of retired band director Michael Omarzu from Western Dubuque High School and retired band director Steve Stickney from Mount Mercy University. The students who participated were Caitlyn Creech – Euphonium, Derek Creech – Trombone, Dylan Creech – Tuba, Devin Diaz – Percussion, Faithlyn Fernando – Clarinet, Olivia Fernando – Flute, Ethan Furgason – Trombone, Jonah Goldsmith – Percussion, Adrian Gonzalez – Clarinet, Renin Gray – Alto Saxophone, Alex Hady – Trumpet, Natalie Herrman – Alto Saxophone, Laisha Lopez – Trumpet, Max Nicoletto – Percussion, Micah Schilling – Trumpet, Em Wermes – Flute, Ellie Weyeneth – Clarinet, and Evan Wilson – Euphonium.

Finally, Evan Wilson was selected on Euphonium for the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Honor Band on January 24^th at the Voxman Music Building on the campus of the University of Iowa. Not only was Evan selected, but he made first chair! Evan was under the direction of conductor Brad Lampe from Central College.
