The Assumption Choir was selected as a clinic choir for the 2026 Iowa Choral Festival. This event, by audition only, features some of the top performing choirs in the state of Iowa. The event was held on Wednesday, May 29 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Congratulations, choir!

Members of the Assumption Choir have had a very successful fall and have earned some high honors. Two 9^th grade students, Caitlyn Creech and Jill Haut, were selected for the 2025 9^th Grade Opus Honor Choir on November 20. You can watch the full Opus event HERE.

One student, Claire Eby ’26, was selected to participate in the 79^th annual Iowa All-State Chorus, and this was Claire’s second year in the chorus. You can watch the Iowa All-State Music Festival on Iowa PBS this Monday, Dec. 8 at 8 pm.

Many singers presented solo and group singing Thespy at the 2025 Iowa Thespian Festival in early November, and Henrick Senne ’28, earned a 2^nd Place finish in his center. Congratulations, Henrick!

Singing in Choir/Opus/All-State

Students, please consider joining the Assumption Choir! We’ll have an even larger ensemble this year, and you would be part of friendly, dedicated, and accomplished group. 9^th grade choir members are encouraged to audition for the 39^th Annual Opus Honor Choir. Information about the festival and registration for an audition camp on Aug. 11 and 12 can be found HERE. There is no cost for the camp. 9^th – 12^th grade choir members are encouraged to audition for the prestigious Iowa All-State Chorus. Interested students need to contact Dr. Loes, and plan to attend an All-State camp at Davenport North HS on Aug. 4^th and 5^th. The cost of the camp is $50 and it will include 3 meals.

Seven Assumption Choir members were selected to participate in the 2025 Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College on Jan. 12^th and 13^th. Six of the students also participated in private voice lessons with a voice professor, which made them eligible to be a solo finalist for the Grand Concert. Earning honorable mention for her solo was Katelyn O’Brien ‘25, and listed as a semi-finalist was Geno DelPreore ’25. The Dorian Vocal Festival is the largest select high school honor choir in the country with nearly 1,000 junior/senior student singers from over 200 high schools and five states.
