Feast of the Annunciation – Papal Consecration – Please Join Us In Prayer!

Today the Holy Father is asking all the faithful to join in prayer for peace.  We invite all members of our Assumption Family to respond as we seek the intercession of Blessed Mother Mary, our patroness.  Students have various opportunities for prayer and education this week and today regarding the Papal consecration of Russia and Ukraine that is scheduled to take place at the Vatican today at approximately 12:30 p.m. (US Central Standard Time).  Today (March 25th, 9 months before Christmas) is also the Feast of the Annunciation, celebrating the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary during which he told her that she would be the mother of Jesus.

At school today, we started our morning with a brief explanation of what a consecration is, as we are most familiar with the “consecration” term as it applies to a priest consecrating the Eucharist – turning bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  It was explained that the term “consecrate” means “to dedicate to a sacred purpose.”  The Church applies this vocabulary toward the consecration of places, persons (consecrated religious or lay people), and liturgical objects.

Today, Pope Francis is asking all of us to join in prayer as he consecrates Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  In her apparitions to the three shepherd children at Fatima in 1917, Mary requested this consecration in an effort of peace.  We began our day at school with the following prayer:

Heavenly Father,

We come to you on this Feast of the Annunciation.  We celebrate this day the awesome reality that You became man, in the womb of our mother, Mary. We know that in everything, You are with us.  In this time of unrest in Ukraine, may we see your glory amidst great struggle.  We pray together today, as Pope Francis joins with the bishops and priests of the world, to consecrate both Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  May we all find the peace of Christ through the intercession of Mary.  May our hearts and the hearts of all people be turned in the direction of You, our Loving God. Amen.

Service Opportunity

Starting in January, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 3-4 PM, students can come to the library to help the English department reorganize and clean the library! Mrs. Lamp will record who attends, & the time will count toward students’ service hours!

Knights For Life AHS Family T-Shirt Order

In honor of this Respect Life Month of October, we are fortunate that a generous benefactor has offered to sponsor a reprinting of the original “Knights for Life” t-shirts that were printed several years ago.  All current AHS Students and Faculty/Staff are invited to order a shirt at no charge.  That said, we anticipate that others in our Assumption Family (alumni, parents, family, friends) may also want to participate in this stand for life through purchasing a t-shirt. If you would like to purchase a shirt, you can do so by completing this survey link below.  The cost is $10 for short-sleeved and $14 for long-sleeved. AHS Prayer Group

The AHS Prayer Group gathered at 9AM  Wednesday morning to pray for the needs of our AHS students, faculty, staff and community.  We took the opportunity to pray for each member of the AHS Faculty and Staff by name, prayed for the students’ special intentions, prayed for a safe and joy-filled Homecoming, and concluded by praying the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.   All parents, alumni and friends of AHS are invited to join.  We will gather each Wednesday in the AHS Chapel at 9 AM.  This is a unique and special prayer opportunity.    Come as you are and come when you are able and your schedule allows (Please enter using the main entrance).  Although many of you may work during the day and may not be able to join us, please know, we are happy to lift any intentions you may have and we ask that you remember our prayer gathering and join us in spirit.  You can send prayer requests to AHSprayers@gmail.com or contact Sara Sieren 563.210.6554  

Special Prayer Service-Praying for Local Youth Fighting Cancer

There will be a special prayer service for healing at OLV on Wednesday, August 11 at 6:30pm. Fr. Andrew Rauenbuehler, new AHS Chaplain, will lead a period of adoration and confession, followed by Mass. We will be praying for local youth who are fighting cancer, and invite anyone in need of physical or spiritual healing to join us. Come pray, share your needs, and receive God’s Grace. If you would like to help serve at Mass as an EMHC, lector, altar server, or hospitality minister, please let us know at davolvym@diodav.org. All are welcome!

Service Opportunity-Lourdes Catholic School

Lourdes Catholic School is seeking high school students to volunteer for some light labor – moving 160 new student desks and 160 new student chairs, one at a time, from the school cafeteria into the classrooms.

 

We plan starting work Tuesday morning, July 20, for two hours, and, depending on how many volunteers we get, continuing Wednesday morning and even Thursday morning if needed.

Umpires Needed – Davenport East Little League

Davenport East Little League is in need of umpires on Tuesday and Thursday nights for 10u & 12u at Garfield Park. They will pay $30 per game or you could get service hours. They are needed from 5:45-roughly 8:00. They would need good baseball knowledge and be able to feel comfortable calling balls and strikes.  Generally only one or two per night are needed.

Looking for Housing for NET Team – April 26, 27, 28, 2021

We are looking to house NET Team members on the evening of 4/26 (pick up from AHS in the evening), 4/27 (provide transportation in the morning to Assumption and they will be dropped back off after 4 pm), & 4/28 (provide transportation in the morning to Assumption and they will be dropped back off after 4 pm), 4/29 (provide transportation to AHS in the morning.)

Families interested would need to host two college-aged students for these dates.

AHS Thursday Prayer Group

The AHS Prayer Group invites the entire Assumption family (parents, grandparents, alumni, etc.) to gather for prayer and Rosary each Thursday at 8:45 a.m. in the Faculty Parking Lot. Please bring a chair and join us in offering intentions for our entire AHS community!
Every Thursday the AHS Prayer Group prays for the students (each by name, one class per week), students’ intentions (prayer boxes are available in several of the teachers’ rooms), intentions for our entire AHS community, and then conclude praying the Rosary together. Come as you are and come when you are able and your schedule allows. Service Hours Opportunity – Census

Assistance is needed in placing door hangers on apartments promoting the census.  The hanging period is designated for Friday, March 20-Monday, March 23.  There is no age requirements, but having some adult participation/supervision can be helpful.  Those placing hangers on doors are not interacting with anyone, they will just place the hanger and move on.
