Volunteers are needed for the JDRF Walk on Saturday, May 5th. Check-in volunteers need to be 18 years of age, but there are plenty of other opportunities, such as manning inflatables, kids activities, walk route cheering and wearing mascot costumes. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.
Northgate Hy-Vee is building a fundraising campaign for JDRF (formerly know as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and their “One Walk” to help find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes. This campaign will last from April 1st to May 1st. They are looking for students who are in need/want volunteer hours. They need students who would simply staff JDRF tables in their Hy-Vee store for allotted shifts where they would educate people about JDRF, why they are raising money to find a cure, sell root beer floats, JDRF shoes, and JDRF bars. It should be a fun volunteer experience and you can do it with friends! Also, if any students want to join the Hy-Vee team for the JDRF “One Walk” on May 5th at BlackHawk College you are more than welcome to! This would be an excellent experience for any student, but especially those pursuing a career in the health and wellness field. If you are interested, please contact: Katie Lashier, RD, LD at klashier@hy-vee.com
On April 27th and 28th, the Humility of Mary Housing is looking for students who can volunteer to help with packing, carry out, loading and set up and tear down at their Fresh Start Benefit Sale. They are especially looking for teens for the noon to 4 shift on Saturday afternoon . During ‘tear down’ they bag left over winter clothes and prepare the racks for hanging up summer clothes the following Monday.
If you are interested in helping, please call the office at 563-326-1330, ext. 105.
Are you looking for service hours? In honor of “Cathedral Sunday” (and in an effort to support our Diocesan Cathedral), we are looking for students/families to sell raffle tickets after each of this weekend’s Masses (February 3/4) at our supporting parishes. The job is simple- stand at the back (tickets in hand) and be available for sales as parishioners exit Mass. The sign-up timeframes list the Mass times at each parish, so volunteers should expect to stay 15-20 minutes after Mass to complete the service opportunity. We are so blessed to have our beautiful cathedral so near. Fortunately, we are able to host our annual Baccalaureate Mass there, as well as a variety of choir and retreat events throughout the year. Supporting this effort is but a small way we can assist in keeping this beautiful place of worship (that we all share) at its best.
A single student name can be entered (the student’s siblings and/or parents are welcome to assist with covering the multiple exits of the church), or a few students can sign up together. Each Mass a student covers will count for 1/2 hour of service for the AHS service log. Students are allowed to cover multiple Masses at their parish, if desired. Students covering any Mass should pick up a packet of tickets by the end of the day on Friday, February 2nd, in the front office.
Please consider helping with this effort. Click here to sign up via the SignUp Genius. We are blessed to be a part of this vibrant Catholic community, and many hands make lighter work. Happy Catholic Schools Week 2018!
One in the Spirit,
Mrs. Murphy
