Assumption Clubs and Activities

Assumption High Clubs and Activities 2024-2025

Dear Students –

Welcome back!

I can’t tell you how good it is to see the faces of all of those returning to the halls of Assumption – as well as all of the new faces.  After just two weeks – we’ve already had a few adventures together in weathering the heat of an Iowa summer – as well as a few early outs! (How fun was that?) I hope you did something great with that extra time.

I’ve been in all the freshman classes this week to introduce myself, and am getting through the list of foreign exchange students and transfers this week and next.  So hopefully, if you don’t know me yet, you will!  I hope you’ll find my office (and me 😊) a friendly place to talk, get questions answered without judgement, and find resources you need.

One piece of advice as we start the year… assume the best.  Are you a freshman or a transfer and not sure if you’ll fit in with the community here?  Assume the best.  Students here are some of the best in the land (in my humble opinion.)  You will find someone you connect with.  And with just one connection…others tend to appear.

Are you unsure if you should approach your teacher to ask a question?  Assume the best.  Teachers here really care about their students.  They want to see you succeed.  They’re hoping you’ll be engaged!  The vast majority LOVE it when you go ask questions!

Not sure if you should raise your hand in class to answer that question?  Assume the best.  Be brave!  You will give confidence to those wondering if they should raise their hands, too!  And if you get that answer wrong – it’s OK!  EVERYONE gets things wrong sometimes.  Try again next time!

Wondering whether you should open yourself up to making a new friend?  Assume the best!  High school is the best time to open up your social circle and get to know new people.  Take a chance on getting to know someone new.  In fact, take a chance on getting to know LOTS of new people.  That person you weren’t sure about in grade school may have matured or grown…and you probably have, too!  Take a look with new eyes.  You might be surprised.

Dear students – I hope you have the BEST year at Assumption High School.  Don’t hesitate to stop in to room E1 to see me to talk, get some resources, play some chess or Connect 4 after school, or just tell me how your day is going.  I love to see you.  And don’t forget to join some activities – I’ll attach the list of Clubs and Activities again.  Clubs and activities are a great way to get to know people.  Get involved.

Here’s to a great year,

Ms. Bush

Student Service Opportunities

Students,

Please see the email below for a service opportunity this weekend. Please contact Mr. Robinson for more information.

Date: Saturday, 9/7

Ideally, I need 6-8 students in two groups

Group 1: MEET AT 8:45, at SACRED HEART. They will get tables and chairs and load them into the truck. Then, these students will travel with us to the Cafe on Vine (932 W 6th) to set up the tables and chairs. They’d be done by 10:00.

Group 2: MEET AT 1:00 at CAFE ON VINE, 932 W 6th Street. They will tear down the tables and chairs and load them into the truck. Then, these students will travel with us back to Sacred Heart to put the tables and chairs away. They’d be done by 2:15.

The students can do both shifts, or we could have 12-16 total between the two shifts.

The students would be supervised by myself, and my husband, Caine Schneider. Ideally, the students can drive between Sacred Heart and the Cafe, but Caine and I have room in our cars if needed.

They can reach out to me at 563.676.9650, or nicolehirstschneider@gmail.com email address or inform Mr. Robinson. Ideally, I’d like to know by end of day Thursday, so we can email out the final instructions, and I can try to recruit others if there isn’t enough interest.

Important Dates and Items for the 2024-2025 School Year

Please mark your calendars for the following dates!

Drop-In Registration and School Yearbook Picture Days: July 29th from 10am-1pm, or August 5th from 10am-1pm

Be on the lookout for a more detailed “Back to School 2024-2025 Information Letter” by email soon. Please take note of these dates as every student will need to stop in on one of the days, drop off important paperwork, and have a school year photo taken along with some other important items.

Some pre check-off items so that you are coming to registration days well prepared for the 2024-2025 year:

  • SENIORS are required to provide an updated immunization record reflecting the 2nd Meningitis Vaccine (MenACWY or Men ABCWY) required by the Scott County Health Dept. (Please look for an email with more information regarding this vaccine as we are required by law to have this record before a student is to attend school as a senior. You will not receive an email if your have one on file.) You can also email this record to donica.mokosak@assumptionhigh.org at any time.
  • FRESHMEN are required to bring a Certificate of Dental Screening
  • ALL ATHLETES are required to have an Iowa Athletic Pre-Participation Physical Examination  and a Heads Up Concussion Form  signed and turned in with the physical. *It is highly recommended that even if you don’t plan to play a sport, that a physical is obtained and turned in so you are eligible to play a sport at any point in the year!
