Parking Lot Update
Dear Assumption Family,
As the new year begins, I wanted to give you an update on the parking lot project that has been in the works for several months.
In early April we began working with Shive-Hattery on addressing all the challenges with our current parking lot. Instead of a quick fix, we chose to look at everything that needed to be addressed such as traffic flow, drainage, optimization of space available and lighting/security. With an investment of this size, the goal has been to do this the right way, not the quickest way.
During this process we were made aware of several challenges with a project of this magnitude. First was the need for a water retention plan, which required extended architectural designs and approval from the city. Second was the need to address ADA compliance and access, which has long been a challenge in the lot. Third was the electrical plan for lighting in the lot which required coordination from the engineers, Mid-American, St. Ambrose and potential contractors.
These challenges coupled with supply chain issues and scheduling conflicts have increased the amount of time needed to get the job started. In the past week we have been dealing with Mid-American’s plan to replace their gas line on our property. Many of you who have been to school in the last week have noticed the amount of work being done on West Central Park, the driveway and student entrance hill. It certainly would not have been ideal for us to start a project that would be torn up when they began their construction.
With the help of Shive-Hattery and consultant Matt Thompson we have broken the project into three phases. Our hope is that we can begin Phase I (the front circle drive) yet this fall with the back lot construction to begin early summer of 2023. On August 17 we received the initial bid for phase one and everyone involved in the process is reviewing the proposal. Currently, we still need to get the electrical plan in place for a final price, which should happen early next week.
I truly appreciate all your support of this project and wanted you all to know its status. Even though we were unable to get everything in place to accomplish this project over the summer our goal is to get at least the first part done yet this fall – with phase II and III to be completed next summer. We appreciate your patience.
Thank you,
Andy Craig, President
2022 Century Club Membership and Steak Fry
Dear Assumption Family and Friends,
We would like to invite you to become a member of this year’s Assumption Century Club. All Century Club Members are invited to our Annual Steak Fry on Friday, August 12, at Jack & Pat Bush Stadium. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. New this year, alum Scott Stowe ’05 will provide musical entertainment for the evening.
This event is free to all Century Club Members. This event has been a great Assumption tradition for well over thirty (30) years and a fun way to kick off the upcoming seasons for all sports programs.
The Century Club’s sole mission is to provide financial assistance to the AHS girls’ and boys’ athletic programs. Each year the Century Club helps support all of our team sports by funding new equipment, special projects and facility improvements. Typically, the Century Club provides in excess of $20,000.00 in financial assistance to Assumption’s Athletic Programs on an annual basis.
Our AHS Athletic Programs enjoyed continued success this past 2021 – 2022 school year. While this last year continued to be impacted by the COVID Pandemic, AHS sports thrived despite the adversity. In fact, this year may have been one of the better overall years for sports at AHS. The volleyball team made it to State, girls and boys basketball teams made it to State, the boys soccer team won a State title, the girls soccer team finished second, and the girls tennis team finished third at State and had its doubles team take second at State.
In addition, as of this writing the softball team is currently ranked second in the State in Class 3A and our boys baseball team is leading the MAC while ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. Numerous other AHS programs and individual athletes also had outstanding seasons this past year. Your membership dues directly assist our athletes with accomplishing these amazing achievements.
PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A CENTURY CLUB MEMBER. The “Century” in our name signifies the amount of the annual dues – $100.00. However, a growing number of AHS supporters are choosing to become “Gold Members” for $200.00. Membership dues are TAX DEDUCTIBLE*.
We strive to have a broad base of support across the AHS community, so either amount is greatly appreciated. To become a member of the Century Club, we ask that you complete the Membership Form and return the completed form, along with your dues, to: Assumption High School, Attention: Century Club, 1020 West Central Park Avenue, Davenport, Iowa 52804. Checks should be made payable to “AHS Century Club”. If you have a student, you can elect to pay your dues as part of your school registration. Please see Membership Form for online payment option (convenience fee charged) as well!
As in the past, we will be raffling off some great prizes at the Steak Fry. Raffle tickets are available for purchase — 1 for $10, 3 for $25 or 8 for $50 by indicating your preference on the Membership Form.
Thank you for your support of our strong athletic tradition at Assumption!
