Iowa All-State Chorus

Iowa All-State Chorus

Three Assumption vocalists were accepted to the 2019 Iowa All-State Chorus, and include Madeline Murphy ’21 (Soprano 2), Annette Baker ’21 (Soprano 1), and Bailey Lehnert ’22 (Soprano 1).  Their acceptance represents the first time an Assumption singer has been chosen for the chorus since 2000, and they are now the 9th, 10th, and 11th students ever to be selected for the All-State Chorus.  The 73rd Annual All-State Music Festival will take place in Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus on November 22nd and 23rd, and will conclude with a concert at 7:30 p.m. on November 23rd.  The festival will be recorded and broadcast on Iowa Public Television.  Please check the IPTV website (iptv.org) for exact times and dates.

Freshman Formal – November 9, 2019

Assumption will again host a “Freshman Formal” on Saturday, November 9th, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. in the Assumption cafeteria.  This non-dated dance is open only to 9th graders who attend Assumption High School. Attire is expected to be similar to Homecoming or Turnabout, with girls having the opportunity to wear semi-formal dresses of appropriate length and modesty, and boys wearing shirts and ties.  (Any students who need assistance with acquiring the appropriate attire or with purchasing a ticket should see Mrs. Murphy or Mr. Frieden, as we have means in place to make sure that financial barriers will not prevent any student from attending this fun event.)  Check-in will begin at 7:00 p.m., dinner (catered by student favorite, Chick-fil-A) will be served all throughout the event, and music and dancing will be sure to keep the event enjoyable for all.  Students needing to leave prior to 9:30 will need parent/guardian verbal (via phone) or written (via note or email) permission.

Student Council members will be selling tickets during lunches all next week for $20 per person. All proceeds from this effort support the Class of 2023 charity fund.  This fund provides each graduating class the opportunity to give a selected gift back to Assumption upon graduation in four short years. Funds raised at the Class of 2023 Senior Spaghetti Supper will be added to this charity fund as well.  We are excited to partner with you at this exciting time in your student’s life. Plans for the event are well underway.  There are some great ideas in the works to make the experience a fun and positive night.

Attendance Reminder

As a reminder, all attendance is now tracked through the Library and overseen by Mrs. Bridget Frieden.  If students arrive tardy, but prior to 8am, they should proceed directly to their 1st period class.

All students are required to sign in and out at the Library desk if they are being called out of school or arriving late (anytime after 8am). If Mrs. Frieden has not heard from a parent or a doctor’s excuse is not provided when a student arrives during the school day, she will call the parent to make sure they are aware their student is arriving late.  You may call in, at 563-326-5313, and hit 1 for Attendance if you are reporting an absence, or if your student needs to be released for an appointment.  You may leave a voicemail there with your student’s name, date, and reason for being absent.  You may also communicate attendance issues via email to attendance@assumptionhigh.org.

If your student is leaving school early for any reason, please contact Mrs. Frieden to let her know, so when your student comes in, she knows they are to be leaving.  In order for a student absence to be considered excused, school policy requires a doctor’s note, a statement from a college for a college visit, or an internal communication that it is a school-approved event. Thank you for your help with our school attendance procedures!
