Picture Retakes – September 25th – Small Gym

Picture retake day will be Tuesday, September 25th during lunches.  Any student that did not get their picture taken at Registration, need to make sure they get that done during their lunch period.  If there are any students that wish to have their picture retaken, please make sure you go to the small gym during your lunch that day. Remember Senior boys need to be in a dress shirt, tie and preferably a jacket.  Senior girls will wear the black drape.  Underclassmen all need to be in school uniform.  It is an Out-of-Uniform day, so they will need to change in to a uniform top for their pictures.

If you have any questions, please contact Shelli Miller at ext. 200.

Academic Decathlon – Looking for Upperclassmen Participants

Mrs. Lamp is looking for upperclassmen to participate in Academic Decathlon! Meetings begin October 5th!

Academic Decathlon is the premier scholastic competition for high-school students; it combines a Quiz Bowl competition with paper-and-pencil testing and presents students with a unique, interdisciplinary approach to developing skills. This AHS club brings together academics, communication, and teambuilding in a competitive framework that reinvigorates learning. Because each decathlete participates in all ten Decathlon events, students participating in the program enjoy a well-rounded scholastic experience that enables them to develop their strengths and overcome their weaknesses. Decathlon events include subject tests in eight academic categories (Art, Music, Economics, Literature, Science, Math, Social Studies, and Essay) and two interpersonal-skills events (Interview, and Speech).

Participating in Academic Decathlon requires once-a-week attendance at a 15-minute meeting. The club meets in Mrs. Lamp’s room on Friday mornings from 7:25 to 7:40.

There are two competition weekends: Regionals are held Saturday, January 26th, and State will be in March. If we should make it to Nationals, they are held in April.

Academic Decathlon encourages personal and academic growth, looks great on resumes, and doesn’t take a ton of time! If a Test-taking / Quiz Bowl competition sounds like an activity your student might enjoy, please encourage him or her to come to our first meeting!

Student Virtus Educational Training

Attention all AHS Parents,

We want to be sure you are aware of the efforts being made at Assumption and throughout the Diocese of Davenport to assure students are educated with regard to personal safety, self-respect, and appropriate boundaries.  For a number of years, the Virtus program has been implemented for all employees and volunteers in our schools and parishes.  This year, a student education program through Virtus is being instituted at all grade levels as well.  The plan for implementation at Assumption High School is to integrate the training (1 45-minute session each semester) into our Theology courses. If you would like to view the specifics of the program, please contact Natalie Imborek, Assumption Campus Minister, at natalie.imborek@assumptionhigh.org.  An opt-out form is attached to this post if you prefer your student be excluded from this educational programming.  Please submit all completed forms to Mrs. Imborek via email (or drop off in the AHS front office) no later than Monday, September 24th at 3pm.  Thanks so much for your partnership in student education and safety.
