Prom and Post Prom Info! – May 6-7, 2023

Please see the letter below that was emailed to AHS Junior’s and Senior’s regarding Prom and Post Prom information.

Good Morning, Ladies and Gentlemen, Upperclassmen of Assumption High School!

The Assumption Prom 2023 is quickly approaching!  This year’s function will be held Saturday, May 6th, at Rhythm City Casino.

  • Promenade Instructions Promenade begins at 6:00 p.m. at Rhythm City Casino in the Quads rooms.  Students wishing to participate may line up beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Seating will be available for parents, family, and friends who wish to attend Promenade.

  • Pre-Prom Mass In an effort to make fulfilling the Sunday Mass obligation easier for students with the timing of the scheduled events, Mass (for students and chaperones only) will be celebrated immediately following the Promenade. We are fortunate to have Fr. Andrew Rauenbuehler, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Victory, presiding as we embrace the opportunity to celebrate Mass together on this special evening.

  • Dance and Dismissal Immediately following the Pre-Prom Mass, sign-in will open for seating in the Davenport room.  Students must be signed in on site no later than 7:00 p.m.  Prom will include dinner and dancing until 11:00 p.m.  Students may not leave the dance earlier than 10:30 p.m. All clothing, dancing, and behavior must remain appropriate.  Prom is an extension of the academic setting, and high expectations will be maintained.

  • Post Prom

For accountability purposes, all students who attend Prom are expected to attend Post Prom at Assumption.  Written parental permission to be excused from Post Prom (in full or in part) may be submitted to the school office by Thursday, May 4th. If this written permission is not on file at school, and a student who attended Prom does not show up to Post Prom, a parent/guardian will be called. Post Prom will open at 11:00 p.m. All junior and senior students, regardless of whether or not they attended the dance, are invited and encouraged to attend Post Prom.  There is no cost to attend Post Prom. Students must arrive at Post Prom no later than 11:30 p.m. Students will be able to use locker room facilities at Assumption to change clothes after the dance, if needed. Students may not leave Post Prom (without prior written permission) until its completion at approximately 2:30 a.m.  Mentalist, Chris Carter will be the entertainment for the evening, so do not miss this opportunity to watch his show.

If you would like to bring a guest from another school, please stop in the front office for the proper dance guest permission form.  Please choose your attire with a standard of modesty in mind.  Any students who need assistance with acquiring appropriate attire or with purchasing a ticket should see Mrs. Murphy or Mr. Frieden, as there are means in place to make sure that financial barriers do not prevent any student from attending this fun event.  Student Council members will be selling tickets during lunches until FRIDAY, APRIL 28TH for $40 per person in order to provide an attendance count to the venue, while allowing everyone the opportunity to attend.

Please join in making this event an awesome time for Assumption students!

Enjoy making memories,

Mr. Frieden

Director of Student Success

ESA Overview Meeting – March 29 @ 7:00 p.m.

Many of you may have already heard something about the Education Savings Account (ESA) law which passed through the Iowa Legislature at the beginning of the 2023 session.  This law has significant future implications for all of our Iowa resident K-12 Catholic school families.  While the administrative rules are still being developed at the state level, some of you are anxious to learn a bit more about the ESA law, even at this early point.  There will be a “first peek” meeting held in the Assumption Auditorium on Wednesday March 29th at 7:00 PM.  This meeting is open to all current parents. There will be additional meetings in the coming months, once more information becomes available.
