On Sunday, December 8th, 10 members of the Assumption Choir traveled out to St. Peter in Buffalo to sing for their 10:00 Mass. This marked the first time members of the choir have visited St. Peter, and they were very thankful for the warm reception and hospitality.
Assumption Choir visits St. Andrew Parish in Blue Grass
On Sunday, November 3rd the Assumption Choir visited Blue Grass and sang for Mass at St. Andrew Parish. Many thanks to the staff and parishioners of the parish for being so welcoming and accommodating!
Iowa All-State Chorus
Three Assumption vocalists were accepted to the 2019 Iowa All-State Chorus, and include Madeline Murphy ’21 (Soprano 2), Annette Baker ’21 (Soprano 1), and Bailey Lehnert ’22 (Soprano 1). Their acceptance represents the first time an Assumption singer has been chosen for the chorus since 2000, and they are now the 9th, 10th, and 11th students ever to be selected for the All-State Chorus. The 73rd Annual All-State Music Festival will take place in Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus on November 22nd and 23rd, and will conclude with a concert at 7:30 p.m. on November 23rd. The festival will be recorded and broadcast on Iowa Public Television. Please check the IPTV website (iptv.org) for exact times and dates.
Assumption Choir Members to sing at Lourdes’ Fall Festival –
11 members of the Assumption Choir will be helping to entertain participants of Our Lady of Lourdes’ Fall Festival on this Saturday, September 21st. The students will be singing at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. Come support these students and the members of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf!
Assumption is hosting the Iowa High School Music Association 3A Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, and we really need volunteers! Your time is eligible for service hours, and many of the jobs are as simple as sitting at a table following a schedule, or serving concessions, or taking admission money. Any time you are able to help out is appreciated. We also have set-up time on Friday and tear-down on Saturday, if you’d rather do that. The Knight Notation Jazz Choir participated in the Solon Vocal Jazz Festival in Solon, Iowa on February 15th. The ensemble peformed well and received a score that was 35 points higher than last year’s score. Congratulations, Knight Notation! Ensemble members include: Nathan Seutter ‘19, Madeline Murphy ’21, Kelly Anzola ’19, Abby Schauer ’19, Jon Herrington ’19, and Melanie Comer ’19.
Congratulations to soprano Abigail Schauer ’19 on her selection to participate in the Iowa State Honor Choir in Ames on February 10th and 11th. She was 1 of only 100 singers from across the state selected to participate. Way to go Abby!
