Prom 2022 Update

Good Morning, Ladies and Gentlemen, Upperclassmen of Assumption High School!

The Assumption Prom 2022 is quickly approaching!  This year’s function will be held Saturday, May 7th, at Rhythm City Casino.

  • Promenade Instructions

Promenade begins at 6:00 p.m. at Rhythm City Casino in the Quads rooms.  Students wishing to participate may line up beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Seating will be available for parents, family, and friends who wish to attend Promenade.

  • Pre-Prom Mass

In an effort to make fulfilling the Sunday Mass obligation easier for students with the timing of the scheduled events, Mass (for students and chaperones only) will be celebrated immediately following the Promenade. We are fortunate to have Fr. Andrew Rauenbuehler, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Victory, presiding as we embrace the opportunity to celebrate Mass together on this special evening.

  • Dance and Dismissal

Immediately following the Pre-Prom Mass, sign-in will open for seating in the Davenport room.  Students must be signed in on site no later than 7:00 p.m.  Prom will include dinner and dancing until 11:00 p.m.  Students may not leave the dance earlier than 10:30 p.m. All clothing, dancing, and behavior must remain appropriate.  Prom is an extension of the academic setting, and high expectations will be maintained.

  • Post Prom

Post Prom will be Hawaiian themed. Students are welcomed and encouraged to dress in fun Hawaiian themed clothing. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 best dressed in Hawaiian themed attire. While we welcome all students to have fun with the theme, extra-curricular activity attire guidelines will need to be followed.

For accountability purposes, all students who attend Prom are expected to attend Post Prom at Assumption.  Written parental permission to be excused from Post Prom (in full or in part) may be submitted to the school office by Thursday, May 5th. If this written permission is not on file at school, and a student who attended Prom does not show up to Post Prom, a parent/guardian will be called. Post Prom will open at 11:00 p.m. All junior and senior students, regardless of whether or not they attended the dance, are invited and encouraged to attend Post Prom.  There is no cost to attend Post Prom. Students must arrive at Post Prom no later than 11:30 p.m. Students will be able to use locker room facilities at Assumption to change clothes after the dance, if needed. Students may not leave Post Prom (without prior written permission) until its completion at approximately 2:30 a.m.

If you would like to bring a guest from another school, please stop in the front office for the proper dance guest permission form.  Please choose your attire with a standard of modesty in mind.  Any students who need assistance with acquiring appropriate attire or with purchasing a ticket should see Mrs. Murphy or Mr. Frieden, as there are means in place to make sure that financial barriers do not prevent any student from attending this fun event.  Student Council members will be selling tickets during lunches until Wednesday, May 4th for $40 per person in order to provide an attendance count to the venue while allowing everyone the opportunity to attend.

Please join in making this event an awesome time for Assumption students!

Enjoy making memories,

Mr. Frieden

Feast of the Annunciation – Papal Consecration – Please Join Us In Prayer!

Today the Holy Father is asking all the faithful to join in prayer for peace.  We invite all members of our Assumption Family to respond as we seek the intercession of Blessed Mother Mary, our patroness.  Students have various opportunities for prayer and education this week and today regarding the Papal consecration of Russia and Ukraine that is scheduled to take place at the Vatican today at approximately 12:30 p.m. (US Central Standard Time).  Today (March 25th, 9 months before Christmas) is also the Feast of the Annunciation, celebrating the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary during which he told her that she would be the mother of Jesus.

At school today, we started our morning with a brief explanation of what a consecration is, as we are most familiar with the “consecration” term as it applies to a priest consecrating the Eucharist – turning bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  It was explained that the term “consecrate” means “to dedicate to a sacred purpose.”  The Church applies this vocabulary toward the consecration of places, persons (consecrated religious or lay people), and liturgical objects.

Today, Pope Francis is asking all of us to join in prayer as he consecrates Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  In her apparitions to the three shepherd children at Fatima in 1917, Mary requested this consecration in an effort of peace.  We began our day at school with the following prayer:

Heavenly Father,

We come to you on this Feast of the Annunciation.  We celebrate this day the awesome reality that You became man, in the womb of our mother, Mary. We know that in everything, You are with us.  In this time of unrest in Ukraine, may we see your glory amidst great struggle.  We pray together today, as Pope Francis joins with the bishops and priests of the world, to consecrate both Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  May we all find the peace of Christ through the intercession of Mary.  May our hearts and the hearts of all people be turned in the direction of You, our Loving God. Amen.

Please consider watching the papal consecration live at the following link: https://www.ewtn.com/tv/watch-live

Thanks for your collective prayers with us today!

One in the Spirit,

Bridget Murphy

While it is primarily observed by Jews, it is by no means an exclusive commemoration, as witnessed by the community-wide event held here in the Quad Cities.

● The Quad Cities Yom Hashoah Committee is made up of community leaders of various faiths and organizations, and is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities, Temple Emanuel, Tri-City Jewish Center, Churches United, Augustana College, St. Ambrose University, Black Hawk College, and Scott Community College. The Committee helps us all remember the Holocaust not simply because it is a Jewish tragedy, but because we believe the world must not be allowed to forget that twelve million innocent human beings, six million of them Jews, were murdered by the Nazis. Yom Hashoah seeks to ensure that a crime of such proportions will never be allowed to happen again. We keep the memory of the Holocaust alive to guard against the wanton destruction of any people.

 ● The essay contest bears the name of Ida Kramer (above), former Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities and a longtime Holocaust educator.

● The visual arts contest bears the name of Meyer and Frances Shnurman (above) who were both survivors of Nazi extermination camps.

 ● Quad City Arts (www.quadcityarts.com) is a nonprofit local arts agency dedicated to the growth and vitality of the Quad City region through the presentation, development and celebration of the arts and humanities.
