LULAC Council 10 Scholarship

This scholarship is open to incoming college freshmen and current college students, as well as students pursuing careers in the industrial/technical trades. Applicants must reside within a 50-mile radius of the LULAC Center  (4224 Ricker Hill Rd., Davenport), demonstrate community involvement, and participate in extracurricular activities. Grades, response to the essay prompt and financial need are also considered when deciding the scholarship recipients.

Musicians Represent School in Honor Band Performance

The Assumption Band has had a busy honor band season! First, on January 16, we had six students participate in the University of Dubuque Honor Band under the direction of Dr. Nolan Hauta. The students who participated were Olivia Fernando – Flute, Ellie Weyeneth – Clarinet, Natalie Herrman – Alto Saxophone, Alex Hady – Trumpet, Ethan Furgason – Trombone, and Evan Wilson – Euphonium.

Then, on Monday, January 19 was the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) Honor Band at Central DeWitt High School! We had 18 students participate between two bands. The 9th and 10th grade bands were under the direction of retired band director Michael Omarzu from Western Dubuque High School and retired band director Steve Stickney from Mount Mercy University. The students who participated were Caitlyn Creech – Euphonium, Derek Creech – Trombone, Dylan Creech – Tuba, Devin Diaz – Percussion, Faithlyn Fernando – Clarinet, Olivia Fernando – Flute, Ethan Furgason – Trombone, Jonah Goldsmith – Percussion, Adrian Gonzalez – Clarinet, Renin Gray – Alto Saxophone, Alex Hady – Trumpet, Natalie Herrman – Alto Saxophone, Laisha Lopez – Trumpet, Max Nicoletto – Percussion, Micah Schilling – Trumpet, Em Wermes – Flute, Ellie Weyeneth – Clarinet, and Evan Wilson – Euphonium.

Finally, Evan Wilson was selected on Euphonium for the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Honor Band on January 24th at the Voxman Music Building on the campus of the University of Iowa. Not only was Evan selected, but he made first chair! Evan was under the direction of conductor Brad Lampe from Central College.

Sign Up for Faculty/Staff Luncheon Items for Catholic Schools Week!

During Catholic Schools Week this year, Knight Network will provide a brunch style lunch for our faculty and staff on Wednesday, January 28th. Knight Network funds will be used to purchase the main lunch/brunch, but we are asking for donations of drinks and breakfast desserts. They can be dropped off in the Assumption Front Office Tuesday, January 27th, between 7:00 and 3:30 or Wednesday morning the 28th, 7:00 a.m.- 9:30 a.m.. Thanks so much for your help and support of our hard-working school employees through the Knight Network parent organization!

IAAI – Iowa Scholarship

Each year, the Iowa Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) awards two one-time scholarships in the amount of $1,000. Each scholarship is disbursed in two installments: $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester. Award checks are made payable jointly to the recipient and the educational institution.

Applicants must be Iowa residents and must be accepted to or currently enrolled, either online or in residence, at a nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school. Applicants must be pursuing a course of study leading to a career in one of the following fields:

  • Fire Service
  • Fire Science
  • Law Enforcement
  • Law
  • Fire Protection Engineering
  • Fire Protection Technology
  • Insurance

Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply.

8th Grade Parent Meeting – January 28th, 2026

ATTENTION PARENTS OF THE CLASS OF 2030! 

PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR ANNUAL 8TH GRADE PARENT MEETING. 

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28TH 6:30-7:30 PM 

AHS SUNDERBRUCH AUDITORIUM 

 

On Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, we will hold a meeting for current 8th grade parents and guardians from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Sunderbruch Auditorium at Assumption High School.  We will discuss the admissions process, our course offerings, and introduce representatives from administration, student services, athletics, the SCCS business office, and fine arts.  They will be available to answer any questions you have.  This also marks the time when we can begin accepting freshman applications for the 2026-2027 school year.  Students have the option to attend the meeting as well.

Course Drop Dates

Last Day to Drop a Class for Another Class: Monday, January 12, 2026

  • Students will be required to make up previous work assigned.
  • Students must carry at least 3.0 credits per semester (Board Policy)

Last Day to Drop a Class for a Study Hall: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

  • College courses will receive a “W” (Withdrawal) on their Scott Community College transcript.
  • Students must carry at least 3.0 credits per semester (Board Policy)

In accordance with Iowa State Athletic Union regulations, classes dropped after March 10, 2026, will be considered an “avoidance of failure” and will result in a 20-day period of athletic ineligibility.
