Audition Workshop for OPUS – 5th-9th Grade

Dear Parents,

The vocal music teachers of SCCS,  would like to offer an opportunity for singers in 5th-9th grades to prepare and audition for the Iowa Choral Director’s Association’s Honor Choir, OPUS.


Dr. Trevor Loes, Assumption High School Choral Director, will be directing FREE Opus audition workshops next week. Details:

What: FREE Opus workshops

Why: To introduce the Opus audition materials to interested students, and to help them prepare for the audition process

When: Monday, August 12th AND Tuesday, August 13th.  

Refresher workshop on Wednesday, August 28th 3:15- 4:15. Come to one workshop, or ALL:)

        9:00-10:30  6th grade students

       10:30-12:00 7th and 8th grade boys

        1:00-2:30 7th and 8th grade girls

       2:30-4:00 9th grade students

Where: Assumption High School Choir Room ( lower entrance, behind the auditorium)

(A Refresher workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 28th 3:15- 4:15.)

Opus is a time-honored tradition for Iowa Choral students. Accepted singers will participate in a day long workshop on Thursday, November 21st, in Ames. The workshop will culminate in a beautiful evening concert to which their family may attend. It is an honor to be accepted, and will be a great learning experience. Students who have auditioned and been accepted would be responsible for a $45 registration fee, which also covers lunch and transportation to the event.

Join the AHS Century Club and RSVP to attend the Annual Steak Fry on 8/23!

What is the AHS Century Club?

AHS Century Club’s sole mission is to provide financial assistance to the AHS athletic programs. Each year the Century Club helps support all of our team sports by funding new equipment and improvements to our athletic facilities. Annual membership is $100 per family or $200 for Gold Members.

We would like to invite you to become a member of this year’s AHS Century Club and attend our Annual Steak Fry on Friday, August 23rd at Pat & Jack Bush Stadium. The varsity football team will be playing a scrimmage starting at 4:00 p.m., with cocktails and dinner to follow around 6:00 p.m. This event is FREE to all Century Club members. As in the past, we will be raffling off some great prizes at the Steak Fry. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event (cash or check only): (1) for $10, (3) for $25 or (8) for $50.

This event has been a great Assumption tradition for over three decades and a fun way to kick off the upcoming seasons for all sports programs. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect with other AHS parents, alumni, and the broader school community while supporting athletics. We hope you can attend!

Assumption Boys Golf Beginning of the Season Information-2024

  • Please check in with Coach Laake at 9:00 a.m.
  • Boys golf season/practice begins on August 12. Tee times begin at 10:45 a.m.
  • Dress code does not permit jeans, gym shorts, or non-collar shirts.
  • Bring a water bottle, money, and/or snack with you.
  • You should plan to arrive early enough to warmup before you play.
  • 18 holes will be played the first day.
  • Be sure to have your own clubs, balls, and proper shoes.

Service Opportunity – Quad City Botanical Center

I hope you had a great summer and are ready for fall! We certainly are ready for fall at the Quad City Botanical Center! We have plenty of volunteer opportunities for you to be a part of during the fall season.

With the warmer season coming to an end soon, we are looking for garden volunteers to help the horticulture team prep the gardens for winter. I am very happy to announce that all of the light hanging volunteer opportunities for Winter Lights are now live! We are looking for volunteers to help us hang lights for our holiday light show, Winter Lights. The entire grounds gets decked out from head to toe with Christmas lights, and we need your help! Light hanging has always been a favorite among past volunteers, so do sign up! And those who do sign up and help will receive a free admission pass to Winter Lights, and those who volunteer to help hang up lights often will receive an exclusive surprise!
