Tyler Edwards Named Head Softball Coach

Assumption High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Tyler Edwards as Head Softball Coach for the 2023 season. Edwards, an assistant coach last season for the 2022 State Runner-up Knights, inherits a Knights program that has gone 262-29-1 over the last seven seasons with four Iowa Class 3A State titles (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) and three top three finishes.

A native of Muscatine, Edwards was an all-conference catcher for the Muskies in 2002, and went on to play baseball at St. Ambrose in Davenport the following year. He graduated from SAU in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Marketing.

Edwards has been a head coach with the Future Lady Knights Softball youth program for the past four years, and led Assumption’s junior varsity and freshman squads this past summer.

Outside of softball, he has also been involved with the school board at Lourdes Catholic School in Bettendorf, and he and his wife, Amber, have three children.

The Lady Knights Softball program will officially begin practice on May 1.

Chad Hollmer ’04 Named Head Boys Soccer Coach

Assumption High School is pleased to announce the hiring of alum Chad Hollmer ’04 as Head Boys Soccer Coach for the 2023 season. Hollmer, also in his third season as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, will take over a Knights program that went 16-5 last season and won the 2022 Iowa Class 1A State Tournament Championship.

A native of Davenport, Hollmer graduated from Assumption in 2004 and was a member of the 2002 and 2003 Iowa Class 1A State Championship boys soccer teams. As an undergraduate at Mount Mercy, he was a two-year team captain for the Mustangs, and was a Champion of Character and Student Leadership Award recipient.

Hollmer began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the SAU women’s soccer team in 2009 and 2010. From there he worked as an assistant coach at Mount Mercy in 2012, while also serving as the head girls soccer coach at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.

He moved on to become the head men’s soccer coach at Clarke University for three years from 2016-18, and returned to St. Ambrose in the fall of 2019 as an assistant coach with both the SAU men’s and women’s programs that season. Hollmer was named the head men’s soccer coach at St. Ambrose in December 2019.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Mount Mercy, and a Master’s of Business Administration from St. Ambrose.
The defending State Champion Knights Boys Soccer program will begin practice on March 13.
