Requirements

For best results, your student will need the following:

  • A computer with high-speed Internet connection (Note: The recorded webinar cannot be viewed on a tablet or phone.)
  • A quiet location
  • A headset (extremely helpful, but optional)
  • A pen or pencil
  • A calculator (for the math section)
  • ZAPPING the ACT Study Guide and Workout booklets (be sure to sign up at least 5 business days prior to the webinar to receive materials on time)

Monday, January 31 – Celebrating Our Students

  • “Dodgeball for Diapers” Event
  • Out of uniform day.  Each student may pay $1.00 during lunches (and will receive a hand stamp) to dress in appropriate AHS spirit wear or theme dress for the day.  Theme Dress: Sports Day

  • Dodgeball: 9:05-10:25 Large Gym (Grades 11/12), Small Gym (9/10)-compete with 3rd period classes
  • All students and staff should report to the appropriate gym (designated by 3rd period teacher) and gather with your 3rd period teams.  Each 3rd period teacher should be sure that the 10 dodgeball players representing his or her class are ready to go when called.  Games will be played on a time-limit, and in each game, the team with the most players standing at the buzzer will advance to the next round.  Play will be single-elimination.  All members of the winning 3rd period class will be allowed to go first in the lunch line on Friday, February 11th.

 

  • This event will also be used to promote the school-wide collection of diapers for the Scott County Catholic Schools K-12 diaper drive.  Throughout the week, members of Student Council will collect diaper donations from classrooms.  Grade-level totals will be kept in the cafeteria, and the grade with the highest per/student diaper total will get Whitey’s malt cups at lunches on Friday, February 11th. Students are asked to bring in packages of diapers/baby wipes to a teacher representing his/her grade level. No money will be collected in classrooms.  Students are encouraged to “go the extra mile” to physically bring in donated items to support these local organizations and families.

  • Sophomores- Smyth, Wallace, Simpson, Meissen, Imborek, Sexton, Weeks

  • Seniors- Campbell, Timm, Huber, Rauenbuehler, Martin
  • ***Students are strongly encouraged to participate in this worthy cause!  Student Council will track diaper donations by grade level and share progress with students and faculty.
  • Following the Dodgeball championship game in the large gym, we will host a junior boys vs. senior boys “Powder Puff” volleyball game.  The winning team will face the faculty/staff team to end the event!

  • Knight Network will host a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Lunch in the faculty/staff workroom.  All faculty and staff are encouraged to drop in between 11:00 and 1:00 for lunch.

  • Junior retreat – (all day) Junior students will hear from various community service representatives and have an opportunity to actively volunteer with their classmates
  • All faculty, staff, and students may be out of uniform (FREE) if dressed in appropriate AHS spirit wear.

Saturday, February 5 

  • Turnabout Dance 8-11pm in the AHS Cafeteria
  • Tickets sold during lunches all week – $20 per person.  All 10th-12th graders are welcome to attend.

Your participation and support are greatly appreciated! This event is our special gift to the Assumption
Community. The meal includes pasta, bread, and dessert. Meals are complimentary, and Rev. Louis
Colonnese’s sauce recipe (used at the first AHS Spaghetti Supper in 1960) is worth the trip! Carryout
orders will be packaged for families and individuals for pick-up anytime between 4-7pm. In order to
assist with our planning, we appreciate pre-orders, but we will also have food available on a walk-in basis for those who do not sign-up.

Congratulations to Honor Band Students!

Congratulations to our band students, who had a very busy week with 3 separate honor bands! On Monday, January 17, Central-DeWitt High School hosted the first Crossroads (MAC) Music Festival. Students from the area were divided into two bands. A 9th and 10th grade band was directed by Mr. Dan Terrell, band director at Linn-Mar High School, and the 11th and 12th grade band was directed by Mr. David Lang, retired band director from Independence High School. Assumption had 25 students participate in the Crossroads Music Festival. 9th and 10th graders selected for the festival were: Bianca Connelly – Flute, Maggie Burchett – Clarinet, Geno DelPreore – Alto Sax, Tristen Gray – Tenor Sax, Liam Ryan – Trumpet, Lucas Steining – Trombone, AJ Barry – Euphonium, Ralph Armstrong – Tuba, and Noah Whitlock – Percussion. 11th and 12th graders selected for the festival were: Dylan Whitlock- Flute, Charles James-Hoos – Oboe, Michael Lochner- Clarinet, Maegan Dolan – Clarinet, Kristen Byrne – Clarinet, Tatyana DelPreore – ContraAlto Clarinet, Stephanie Chanez – Tenor Sax, Leah Wilson – Trumpet, Grace Hagerman – Trumpet, Hank Gallagher – Trumpet, David Lochner – Trombone, Lindsey Gerlach – Trombone, Wes Ossowski – Euphonium, Nathan Roman – Tuba, Anna Schuster – Percussion, and Cooper Timmerman – Percussion.

On Friday, January 21, 15 Assumption students participated in an honor band at the University of Dubuque. Assumption students joined other students from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin for a full day of music. Students worked with Dr. Nolan Hauta and Dr. Evan Glickman from the University of Dubuque and with world-renowned composer, Dr. Aaron Perrine. Assumption students especially enjoyed working with Dr. Perrine on pieces he composed. Students selected for the University of Dubuque Honor Band are: Dylan Whitlock- Flute, Alison Byrne- Flute, Maegan Dolan – Clarinet, David Lochner – Clarinet, Kristen Byrne – Clarinet, Ellen Jardine – Alto Sax, Leah Wilson – Trumpet, Grace Hagerman – Trumpet, David Lochner – Trombone, Lindsey Gerlach – Trombone, Lucas Steining – Trombone, AJ Barry – Euphonium, Adie Craig – Percussion, Anna Schuster – Percussion, and Cooper Timmerman – Percussion.

To cap off a busy week, Michael Lochner auditioned and was selected on clarinet for the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Honor Band, which took place at Clear Creek-Amana High School on Saturday, January 22. Students from southeast Iowa rehearsed all day with Dr. Steve Shanley from Coe College and performed an excellent concert displaying a wide variety of music that evening.
