Future Fund Scholarship for St. Paul the Apostle Students

St. Paul the Apostle Future Fund is offering a scholarship for a graduating senior who attended SPS, and who is planning to attend a college or university.  You must include a typewritten essay entitled “What My Catholic Education Has Meant to Me” (maximum 1,000 words).  The Selection Committee will review all applications and essays.  The scholarship will be awarded at the Annual Future Fund Dinner to be held on Friday, May 4, 2018.  The scholarship is not renewable.  All applications must be received at SPS by Friday, March 16, 2018.  No late applications will be accepted.

Wrestling State Send Off – Sunday, February 11, 2018

Knight Nation, please join the Booster and Century Clubs for a celebration of our Wrestling team and it’s 11th straight appearance in the Iowa State Wrestling Dual State Championships. We are also honoring Coach Bush on his 250th and 251st dual wins on Tuesday night. The send off will be at Rookies starting at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. We are offering a $6.00 Burger Basket with Fries, with all proceeds go to the teams expenses in Des Moines. Let’s show our support Sunday evening to this great group of kids and their coaching staff. 59th Annual Spaghetti Supper Success

The class of 2018 hosted the 59th Annual Spaghetti Supper on January 28, 2018.  Guests were treated to the homemade sauce (recipe courtesy of Father Colonese-Director of the first AHS Spaghetti Supper). This longstanding tradition was yet again a cherished opportunity for the Assumption Family to celebrate the many blessings of our community. Thank you to all of the many benefactors of Assumption High School, and thank you to the class of 2018 for your leadership.  Happy Catholic Schools Week!

February 5th & 6th Iowa Assessments – 9-11 Grades

On Monday, February 5th and Tuesday, February 6th, the 9th-11th graders will be taking Iowa Assessments.  School will be starting at the normal time of 7:45 AM both days.  Dismissal on Monday will be at 10:55, with the 11th graders staying for a Registration Meeting in the Aud from 11:00-11:30. Dismissal on Tuesday will be at 10:05 with the 9th & 10th graders staying for a Registration Meeting in the Aud from 10:10-10:40.  Seniors will have both days off.

Backstage Angels Meeting – February 7th

Hello, parents, please note that due to Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day,  the Backstage Angel’s meeting date has been moved up to February 7th at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium.

We strongly encourage, that if you have a child in the Addam’s Family cast or crew, that you make every attempt to attend this meeting. They are pretty quick and efficient but we will cover a lot of details for the upcoming musical.

Senior Parents – Parent Teacher Conferences – Treats Signup

We have so many dedicated teachers at Assumption, and we want to provide snacks and drinks for them to enjoy during the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conference time on Thursday, February 8, 2018. Conferences are in the AHS Cafeteria from 3:30-7:00 p.m. that evening, so drinks and treats can be dropped off in the Assumption Front Office any time that day or the day before.  Thanks so much for your help and support of our teachers through the Knight Network parent organization!

Service Hours Opportunity – February 3rd and 4th

Are you looking for service hours? In honor of “Cathedral Sunday” (and in an effort to support our Diocesan Cathedral), we are looking for students/families to sell raffle tickets after each of this weekend’s Masses (February 3/4) at our supporting parishes. The job is simple- stand at the back (tickets in hand) and be available for sales as parishioners exit Mass. The sign-up timeframes list the Mass times at each parish, so volunteers should expect to stay 15-20 minutes after Mass to complete the service opportunity.  We are so blessed to have our beautiful cathedral so near.  Fortunately, we are able to host our annual Baccalaureate Mass there, as well as a variety of choir and retreat events throughout the year.  Supporting this effort is but a small way we can assist in keeping this beautiful place of worship (that we all share) at its best.

A single student name can be entered (the student’s siblings and/or parents are welcome to assist with covering the multiple exits of the church), or a few students can sign up together. Each Mass a student covers will count for 1/2 hour of service for the AHS service log. Students are allowed to cover multiple Masses at their parish, if desired.  Students covering any Mass should pick up a packet of tickets by the end of the day on Friday, February 2nd, in the front office.
