Parent Prayer Hour- AHS Chapel

Extended to ALL parents is an INVITATION to come together for an HOUR OF PRAYER every Thursday morning at 9AM in the beautiful AHS Chapel!   Originated 8 years ago, the chapel continues to gather parents & AHS community supporters to lift to God our students, alumni, staff & extended community through the rosary and other prayers.  Each student in the school is prayed for often  & specifically by name.  Students’ petitions submitted anonymously into the school’s “Prayer Boxes” are read out loud and prayed for.  Please note that there is no obligation for your attendance every week—all “prayer warriors” are welcome whenever it works for your schedule!  If you have petition requests, but are unable to attend, please provide your prayer request to  one of our prayer leaders: Joanie Vonderhaar (563) 505-5420 or Laurie Verdi (563) 505-5189.

2018 Century Club Steak Fry – Aug. 17

Dear Assumption Family and Friends,

We would like to invite you to become a member of this year’s Assumption Century Club. All Century Club members are invited to our Annual Steak Fry on Friday, August 17. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Assumption Courtyard between the gym and the auditorium. This event is free to all Century Club members. This event has been a great Assumption tradition for over thirty (30) years and a fun way to kick off the fall sports season.

As an added bonus this year, prior to the Steak Fry the varsity football team will be playing a scrimmage against Davenport Central starting at 4:30 p.m. at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex. We are encouraging all of our members to attend at least part of the scrimmage before heading over to Assumption for a fabulous steak dinner and a chance to hear from the Assumption coaches about their upcoming seasons.

The Century Club’s sole mission is to provide financial assistance to the AHS girls’ and boys’ athletic programs. Each year the Century Club helps support all of our team sports by funding new equipment, special projects and facility improvements. Last year alone the Century Club provided in excess of $28,000 in financial assistance to Assumption’s Athletic Programs.

Our AHS athletic programs enjoyed continued success this past school year. The summer of 2017 was a summer to remember! The AHS softball and baseball teams each brought home state championships in exciting fashion! In addition, our girls’ soccer team won yet another state championship this season (that makes seven (7) state titles over the past eight (8) years!). Numerous other AHS programs and individual athletes had outstanding seasons this past year. Your membership dues directly assist our athletes with accomplishing these amazing achievements.

PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A CENTURY CLUB MEMBER. The “Century” in our name signifies the amount of the annual dues – $100.00. However, a growing number of AHS supporters are choosing to become “Gold Members” for $200.00. Membership dues are TAX DEDUCTIBLE*. We strive to have a broad base of support across the AHS community, so either amount is greatly appreciated.

To become a member of the Century Club, we ask that you complete the attached CENTURY CLUB MEMBERSHIP FORM and return the completed form, along with your dues, to: Assumption High School, Attention: Century Club, 1020 West Central Park Avenue, Davenport, Iowa 52804. Checks should be made payable to “AHS Century Club”. If you have a student, you can elect to pay your dues as part of your school registration. Please see Membership Form for online payment option (convenience fee charged) as well!

As in the past, we will be raffling off some great prizes at the Steak Fry. Raffle tickets are available for purchase, 1 for $10, 3 for $25 or 8 for $50 by indicating your preference on the Membership Form.

Thank you for your support of our strong athletic tradition at Assumption!

2018 Father Ken Martin Memorial Golf Outing

Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Emeis Golf Course

This event honors Father Ken Martin, an avid golfer and special friend. Upon his death, he left $1,000 for his golfing buddies to have an outing, and they decided to honor “Father Kenny” by creating this annual event.

Through the years this outing has raised over $300,000 to benefit Scott County K-12 Catholic school students through emergency scholarship grants. Your donation will help children to continue their Catholic school education in spite of their family’s current financial crisis.

Please join us for this charity event! Reservations for golf and dinner, or dinner only, are available.

SIGN UP EARLY as space is limited for this event! Based upon past successes, the slots will fill early. Download and mail in the registration form here.

GOLF RESERVATIONS include golf, cart, prizes, refreshments on the course, and dinner at the Knights of Columbus.

FOR SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION contact Andy Craig at andy.craig@assumptionhigh.org or 563-326-5313 Ext. 225.

The 2018 Assumption Booster Club Golf Outing is dedicated to the memory of Monsignor James F. Parizek. Father Jim, as he was known, was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop O’Keefe in 1972 and his first assignment was Associate Pastor at St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport. He also served many years as Pastor of Our Lady of Victory (OLV) Parish in Davenport until his retirement in 2016. Father Jim received the title Monsignor in 1989. He was a staunch supporter of Catholic education throughout his ministry and had a special fondness for working with the hearing impaired community so that they, too, could hear the word of God. Throughout his ministry Father Jim provided outstanding leadership and pastoral care to parishes in the Davenport diocese, and often remarked how his last assignment as Pastor of OLV was the highlight of his ministry.

Over the years, Assumption High School has had one of the most successful athletic programs in the state of Iowa.  The Booster Club supports AHS athletics with not only uniforms and equipment, but they also co-sponsor (along with the Century Club) sendoff events to cover the costs associated with sending teams and individuals to their respective state tournaments.  The annual golf outing is one of the Booster Club’s major fundraisers and your participation will help the Booster Club continue to provide the much needed support to AHS athletics.
