United Way Day of Caring – May 16, 2019 – Service Hours

Volunteers are stepping up on multiple fronts.

Flooding has displaced businesses and homes and now, more than ever, our community needs to band together. Volunteer and advocacy efforts around this crisis will take place now and long after the water receeds.

That means it’s time to expand our volunteer efforts. Our work with the May 16 Day of Caring will continue. Volunteers can lend a hand to meet local nonprofit needs. In fact, right now, projects like preparing a learning garden, mentor for a day, camp clean ups, reading with kids, indoor and outdoor updates and so much more are waiting for volunteers like you.

Teams of all sizes, and individual volunteers, are invited to join us to complete these half or full-day projects. So roll up your sleeves and use your muscles – alongside the 1,400+ volunteers already registered – to help all Quad Citizens live their best life.

Quad Citizens are generous. Register now for Day of Caring. Stay tuned for flood volunteer needs.

Prom Update Letter and Post Prom Sign-up

Student Council members will be selling tickets during lunches until Friday May 3rd for $40 per person in order to provide everyone the opportunity to attend.

If your student would like to bring a guest from another school, they need to see Mr. Frieden for the proper dance guest permission form.  Please choose your attire with a standard of modesty in mind.  Any students who need assistance with acquiring appropriate attire or with purchasing a ticket should see Mrs. Murphy or Mr. Frieden, as there are means in place to make sure that financial barriers do not prevent any student from attending this fun event.

Thank You for Supporting April Knight

Dear Assumption Family,

I want to personally thank everyone who supported April Knight, Re-U-Knighted…and it feels so good! Whether you attended the event, donated an item, were a corporate sponsor, or purchased a raffle ticket, we could not have made the evening a success without you. A special thanks to Bill Obenauf, Dan DeVries, and Nick Haut for their leadership during the live auction – their commitment and comedic timing proved just the right mix for a fruitful auction.

As the income generated at April Knight supports such a variety of areas (including tuition assistance, academic programming, technological upgrades, and capital improvement projects), I thought it was important to share that revenue from this year’s event was well over the five year average, and we saw an incredible 10% increase when compared to last year alone!

On behalf of our students, faculty, and staff, thank you – you are what truly what makes Assumption special. Through your dedication and commitment it possible for us to continue providing an excellent Catholic education to our students.

Sincerely,
Andy Craig, President

Prom/Post Prom – Saturday, May 4, 2019                   Modern Woodmen Park/Assumption Gymnasium

Promenade Instructions: Promenade begins at 6:00 p.m. at the stadium. Students wishing to participate may line up on the upper walkway inside the stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Seating will be available in Section 9 of the stadium for parents, family, and friends who wish to attend Promenade.

Pre-Prom Mass: In an effort to make fulfilling the Sunday Mass obligation easier for students with the timing of the scheduled events, Mass (for students and chaperones only) will be celebrated at the stadium immediately following the Promenade. We are fortunate to have this opportunity, and we embrace the time to celebrate Mass together on this special evening.

Dance and Dismissal: Immediately following the Pre-Prom Mass, sign-in will open and the professional photographer will be available for pictures.  Students must be signed in on site no later than 7:00 p.m.  Prom will include dinner and dancing until 11:00 p.m.  Students may not leave the dance earlier than 10:30 p.m. All clothing, dancing, and behavior must remain appropriate.  Prom is an extension of the academic setting, and high expectations will be maintained.

Post Prom: For accountability purposes, all students who attend Prom are expected to attend Post Prom at Assumption.  Written parental permission to be excused from Post Prom (in full or in part) may be submitted to the school office by Thursday, May 2nd. If this written permission is not on file at school, and a student who attended Prom does not show up to Post Prom, a parent/guardian will be called. Post Prom will open at 10:30 p.m. All junior and senior students, regardless of whether or not they attended the dance, are invited and encouraged to attend Post Prom.  There is no cost to attend Post Prom. Students must arrive at Post Prom no later than 11:30 p.m. Students will be able to use locker room facilities at Assumption to change clothes after the dance, if needed. Students may not leave Post Prom (without prior written permission) until its completion at 2:30 a.m.

***Post Prom Donation Request: Post Prom is a fun, substance-free after prom party that is held at the school and hosted by the Knight Network parent organization.  This portion of the evening allows students to continue their Prom celebration in a fun but supervised environment.

As you might expect, making this event fun for students requires financial support.  Please know that we are extremely grateful for your support of the Knight Network parent organization in all capacities throughout the year. If you are able to provide any additional support for efforts regarding Post Prom, please prayerfully consider doing so.  Gifts to this effort are tax-deductible and go toward supplying entertainment, food, and prizes for this fun student event. Checks may be made payable to Assumption High School and dropped off at the AHS front office or sent to: Assumption Post Prom, Attn: Shelli Miller, 1020 West Central Park Avenue, Davenport, Iowa, 52804.  Assumption parents are a key element within the quality high school educational experience of our students. Thank you for your support of Knight Network!  If you have any questions, please call Shelli Miller at Assumption High School at 563-326-5313 ext. 200.
